some correlation years removed from Fitzroy Road... 

 

 

Sylvia,

maybe we would have gotten along

splendidly

 

i think your words

could have dated mine

and eventually procreated

poems that would never grow old

 

and maybe the gassy breaths

in your kitchen could have been a meal for two

and the towels under the door

 

would have been meant

to save the writings

we never really wanted anyone to see

kept just between you and me

 

and a god that didn't understand

our "wanting to die"

so that the theme of us

might be remembered....

This one is a somber recollection. The speaker seems to be recalling a tragic event of the distant past, the suicide of someone treasured, apparently another writer. It sounds, in fact, like Sylvia Plath. Whether the speaker actually knew her is immaterial. The admiration for her poetic spirit is evident.

I felt almost like i knew her, having done my Masters thesis on her and Sexton...
but yes...if only she had made a pact with another to stay alive rather than take that "ride with our boy death"--who knows.

It was a shock to everyone the place and circumstance of death to this beloved poet and with great understanding to her private life.
A sad but marvelous poem you share with us about Sylvia Plath and how suffering caused her to commit suicide.
You keep her memory alive by shining the light on this plight sir Jacob.

i think many of us get in that same boat as she...but most don't take it quite the distance she did...an unfortunate loss...of person and of poetry...no telling how much more she would have written...she was writing the best poems of her life just before the end.
