the bookends of life and death

the bookends of life and death

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the bookends of life and death

tambourines rattle

like the conclusion of a diamondback

stories within the swiveling body of paragraphs

slither here and yon

the music of turning pages

and spinning minds

the eyes the windows through which we gaze

in amazement at minds as creative as the venom

of themes that cuts through our inquisitive skin

there is no better death

than the poison of knowledge

we die just a little smarter

and the prologue blurs

as the reading lamp's light wanes

with our dying vision.

thank you for your words, Dawn.

Hell yes kill me with knowledge and give me a moment to jot it down to furtherance... damn good words to end my reading day! Fantastic symbolism and imagery short, sharp and sweet great flow and a nice smack across the forehead:)

thank you for your kind review, Bad bunny,

So full of lines I wish I had written. Conclusion of a diamond back, priceless. THe poison of knowledge, equally so.

thank you for your kind words, Ken,

They do say knowledge is a dangerous thing.
But when it's used to hurt others, then hell hath no fury.
In saying that, I'd rather die with a book than a kindle.
