Becoming

Becoming

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Becoming

and thus he finds solace in a cloudburst

the rain could be his own tears multiplied infinitely

his flesh now sits burned in marmalade ash

resin of a rebirth

the heart accepts

with non-defiant regard

the child with lightning reaction

opposed,

screamed

despised at times, the weather a father forecasts

for a son,

but now the sky has a certain clarity

the droplets sting his welcoming skin

as well as that parchment soaking

from the tears of his heart--

they are each other now

there's always time for breakfast...

A beautiful poignant sad piece of poetry. That is heartfelt, emotional and sentimental. Yesteryears of times that once were full of joy and happiness and now. Just reminders of those times well spent with family and children.

thank you for your words, Dawn,

There is not only sadness here I feel there may have been friction in earlier years over choices. Time is a great healer, we see through the eyes of a parent as we become older, even though we are still the child.

Sometimes it takes almost a lifetime to appreciate the lessons a father tries to teach. Sometimes the lifetime passes on and the memory of the lesson is forgotten along with the father. Then, unfortunately its too late and the remembrance is filled with regret. Very strong statement - Jacob.

Take care - Dave

You are welcome Jacob.
I detect sad undertones in this poem. The loss, accepting of eventuality.... and moving on with life, carrying the burden of memories. That's the picture I received from reading your words, Jacob.

You are most welcome.
The opening stanza is sublime in setting the scene. He has been through much but defiantly lives on and even enjoys life at long last. As always a thinkler to set images swirling and sending the imagination into overdrive.
