until the next negotiation

until the next negotiation

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

until the next negotiation

errant touch,

accidental entreaty

a wisp of sensitivity

she's so close

he can feel her heartbeat in his

tongues swim in aloof arbitration

but no settlement ensues

they just agree on principle

and then roll over with apt appreciation

until morning's contract

has them going separate ways.

Haha yes so subtle but yes the deal is not sealed yet. Could be a case of just shopping not buying. Or like takeaway love can just be a quick bite to eat for now. Lovely metaphors J.

Gosh how well you capture empty sex, when it is a routine rather than a desire and the fire has died Jacob!

If only the heart would or could abide by the emotions that wrack us. So easily it is swayed by the soft warm glow of the body next to us. The intoxicating aroma of the shampoo she uses, the perfume that only she can wear. Strange though, that when she leaves, those are the things that remain in our memory.

Take care - Dave

When you're hot, you're hot, and when you're not, you're not. You can't expect to hit a home run every time you step up to the plate. Can't think of anymore platitudes to cover this situation. Maybe they're just not ready to live together yet.

For me, this has the scent of love for money.
If so, it seems they both may have ended up short-changed but I don't understand arbitration.
Contract negotiations are always difficult!

Intimate but without any label... so sad that there's no compromise. Brief yet it made me think of different life stories.

So near in proximity, yet so far away. Battle weary lines.

tongues swim in aloof arbitration
but no settlement ensues

these words are the ones that catch the meaning of the whole poem itself. as two people fight for position. it was like reading a battle scene. nicely written.

Oh, those one night stands . . . Half a night would wear me out . . . no . . . maybe an eighth.
I'm probably confessing too much here!
