I love your use of water.
You can see the couple moving away from the source of their strength. No more on the river, and now they have walked through the last catch pool. Dehydration is certain as they wonder how it all went wrong.
the flames roar, then flickers, then dies, especially when sincerity leaves of far away places.. I guess the real damage is to the heart which becomes smoldering ashes.... it hurts deeply when this happens... and we are left with 'why does this happen'?... agree with Lydi about the pillows, who witness everything... but it is you Jacob who tells their stories, since you have the poet's pen.
it's Saturday morning and besides needing another cup of coffee, I find myself wanting to go find some rainbows... lol... instead though today is supposed to bring lots of snow and ice.....

When the river runs dry, it's time to accept reality and move on. Without sincerity and truth, a relationship can not survive. Like the personification of the pillow! Lydi**
"...sincerity's leave of absence" is, indeed, an "unwanted sabbatical."
While I certainly believe in free will, doesn't it sometimes feel as if we suddenly
find ourselves off-script, with no way to further the initial narrative?
Insightful poem, J!
Hmmmm- if only the pillows could speak what a story they would tell- times change life goes on - we dont always understand or want what we get but the angels know...sometimes its a blessing🌹
