the lot of poetsA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertothe lot of poets respectful delinquents, street-wise sympathetic
sophisticates university castoffs unceremoniously expelled from the intellectual
community because they have eloped
without books just figurative pages of
love and the interpreted
geniuses with stiff upper lips and unimaginative
ulterior motives snooze on their hard
desks breathing into stale ink
wells devoid of ecstasy the binding that binds
them to blind reverence as they aloofly expel
the poets as sinners sterile facts for the
chosen ones metaphors for the fallen
ones the respectful
delinquents writing their wares upon
pavement parchment in chalky waves of
diligence how delighted they are
to be kicked to the curb of poetic insanity, to find their own pools
of periodic drowning taking in muse filled
swallows that fly over
gravestones of the forgotten bards whose words still live as respectful delinquents with the other
street-wise sympathetic sophisticates who dream in verse. erin-cilberto 11/30/18 © 2018 jacob erin-cilbertoReviews
