Dr. Seuss' WrestleMania

Dr. Seuss' WrestleMania

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Dr. Seuss’ WrestleMania

i attended a poetry slam

surprised not one of the poems came off the mat

the words were pinned to the canvass

printed to the count of three

i attended a poetry slam

the words were running around bases

like the themes had cleared the fence

the poet tipped his pen as he rounded third

i attended a poetry slam

the door shut so tightly

i couldn't hear one word, just a muffled clapping

not a tapping of keys

i attended a poetry slam

and started reciting "sam i am"

i loved the beat of the words

but still found not one came off the mat

match over

slam over

we raised our pens in victory

i attended a poetry slam.

"sam i am."

A slam dunk of a write, I could not help but read it as “same I am” as much as I had visions of Uncle Sam! But that’s just me lol. Enjoyed the Seuss wrestle with words!

I've had to read this three times to understand the unfamiliar Dr. Seuss - known but not appreciated by a hopeless Brit. Now feel my education is sadly lacking; making notes to remedy that. Inspiration from you is a great lesson, j. As to poetry slam, happens here in a crowded cafe somewhere in Somerset and Dorset East,,, seens yours truly should stand front of queue for either or.. Your skill with words, their music and meaning is incredible...

pleasure's all mine jacob... N
Seems to me, poetry slams slam poetry hardest.
And all I can remember about Dr. Seuss is "green eggs and ham"--a less than appetizing image.
WrestleMania, however, does ring some rather loud bells.
Let's face it: Sam I ain't!
Extremely entertaining piece, Jacob.

Oh I used to love reading Dr. Seuss... Should I maybe not admit that :) What a very witty way to bring back those memories (and slam poor Sam I Am :)

Dr. Seuss is madly brilliant :D I wonder how rich he got off those little books? He was a rhyming machine. I'd never been to a slam Sam I am.

Always wanted to attend one, but alas...
Anyhow, kudos on your poem...
I read it here. I think it's true;
That Dr. Suess is really you!

thank you, Crippled Queen.

The beat came through loud and clear and was a winner. The words were unheard left sprawling on the canvas. A loser. That's what I picked up in this clever poem Jacob.
