Dangerous Stash

Dangerous Stash

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Dangerous Stash

i keep a bottle of you

hidden,

where your perception

is oblivious to my heart's intentions

a drawer filled with mixed emotions

neatly ironed expressions

love's label a liaison

a sip of covert concession

admittance is the first step to sobriety

but when it comes to your affection

i would rather have a lost weekend

than die without stealing a few shots of you

even if i wake up on Monday

with no memory

that we happened.

'.. would rather have a lost weekend ~ than die without stealing a few shots of you '

Certainly no sober atmosphere here, j! . (I know, a poor start on my part.) But somehow i find a wit behind or within your words, a temptation of and for self.. an admission you would hide but you want to see loud and clear, a sip in time keeps the adict more than happy, if only at times appropriate. Deep breath! Your skills as both teacher and fine poet really show in this flow of words.

Oh how I love this one becuz of how you show addiction tongue-in-cheek. This reminds me (in current parlance) of the naked selfie I can never delete becuz I'm compelled to take a sip every now & then, altho this guy is years in the rear view mirror! Sometimes I think we fall in love with the idea more than the person & that's why these addictions can be sated with superficial sips (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Ah recognize this so well - some days you think you are free and then smash - there it is again the old addiction but they are not here to give you the desperately needed fix - great words

Being so deeply into someone unnerves one sometimes and we want to stop short of just giving it a name. But our choice of weekend does do the speaking for us, loud and clear! I love this brilliant admission, Mr. Jacob!

WOW...what a "Lost Weekend" that would be. Love is a potent potable, no doubt about it. The metaphor is wonderful here. In that "drawer of mixed emotions" it seems love always is right on top and ready to find. Lydi**
