Dangerous Stash

Dangerous Stash

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Dangerous Stash

i keep a bottle of you

hidden,

where your perception

is oblivious to my heart's intentions

a drawer filled with mixed emotions

neatly ironed expressions

love's label a liaison

a sip of covert concession

admittance is the first step to sobriety

but when it comes to your affection

i would rather have a lost weekend

than die without stealing a few shots of you

even if i wake up on Monday

with no memory

that we happened.

Haha! Admittance is the first step to sobriety...

I was already enjoying the poem, but a smile broke through, and by the end, I must have had about twenty different smiles, in rapid succession! :):)

I so relate to this!!!

Excellent free verse technique, parallelism, alliteration, and a great use of pronoun in the closing stanza. :):)

absolutely nailed it as an ex heavy drinker i can relate to all of this
sober now mainly because of health problems but if i didnt have the health problems i would prob still be at least a weekend drinker i for one am glad i got off the merryground. I did all that you mentioned in youru poem. hid bottles. everything. it ruined a lot of things in my life but slowly rebuilding that trust in family etc. thanks jacob for reminding me where i was and where I am today, thanks i mean it gratefullyxx as always your admirer of your work

no problem jacob you are very welcome
A brilliantly crafted poem jacob overflowing with addictive truths... I was once addicted to nicotine and for a brief spell to opiates which were administered to me during a hospital stay... my entire career was spent working in the field of mental health and addictions so feel appropriately qualified to make my opening statement above.... Good on ya Sir....... Neville

Wow sensational and sublime poetry. A wink wink poem. Funtasic. Some feelings just can't be bottled up eh. Kudos.

We don't often realize how they become a daily dose than just a diversion of sorts.
Some really lovely expressions here.

Never took up drinking, but I was once hooked on heroin as a result of my leg amputation. I know drinkers, though. Most do have a secret stash, like a bottle of vodka in the freezer. I feel the pain of the speaker. As I said, I know drinkers like this.

I love that stanza... a creatively intelligent spin on it is better to love and lost than never love at all.

Ah addiction .... the feeling of you can't get enough and then a sniff, a shot .... Mmmm love the way you have painted it.... a secret affair.. of life... hiding it ...and even in the end if we don't remember .... :)

great stuff as always sir! i am caught up in your narrator's conflicted love life ..actually hooked right away by your title .. i feel so much pain in your V1 ...he's keeping the damn bottle ... and she is oblivious .. and the drawer ... where the honesty of "him" is all there ... complete with all those perfect things to say .. that we all come up with after the fact ...then when it comes to letting her in...he remains closed .. preferring the weekend away ..i can relate to so many things in this one jacob...that love road is filled with pitfalls, pain and terrors ... "Dangerous Stash" speaks to me all the way through ..your voice is strong and clear says i!!!

Love addicition in a hidden bottle, how marvellous is that. How utterly tempting to let that love Genie out knowing the havoc it can wreak. But oh what blissful havoc that would be. Fabulous. Jacob at your best.
