Counting Demented Wildflowers

Counting Demented Wildflowers

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Counting Demented Wildflowers

eccentric daises

petal mending wisdom

she loves me not

but that's inconsequential

when Black Eyed Susan

lives next door

and new gardens are tilled

in crisp October moonlight

lips grasp stems of intimacy

and maniac affections

dig those beams

out from the grounded complacency

and wild nights

dance in a starlit

ballroom,

a marathon of holding

truths against our hearts

moving to a different kind of beat.

This was so beautiful and evocative, Erin. There is a field across the road from me, full of daisies, black-eyed Susans, and Queen Anne's Lace. I used to walk there, but since it is not wheelchair accessible, I can only look at it, now.
Your words took me back into that meadow I love.
I love that you're an English teacher.
My own professor from Greenfield Community College in Greenfield, Massachusetts, turned me on to this site. His name is Saul Greenblatt; I haven't seen him here lately, though.
I majored in English and Creative Writing (Wilson Roberts, professor), also took Public Speaking.

The fourth verse really got me here, complacency is something that irritates me endlessly yet torments my person often in specific aspects; "maniac affections" really do change that with ease and it never really occurred to me until now. Thank you!

I love this poem especially because as you know I live in the countryside and I get kind of hysterical about the wildflowers. I came here from suburbia, all the landscape raped--yes, raped--by bulldozers and concrete. Recently I have been drawing and just several days ago I drew a lonely bunch of black eyed Susans. Says more about this time of year than anything.
I especially like Black Eyed Susan living next door.

Great title, rhythm and feel to this poem j. Upbeat and romantic. Delightful wildflower metaphor wih unleashed imagery of passion “maniac affections” and heady musicality. Wildflowers, , wild nights , wild love- a beautiful dance! Fresh and intoxicating write.

You are most deservedly welcome j. Hope the new school year is treating you well.:))
Love how you have set the scene and the change of tempo from tranquil to full bloodied passion, all in so few lines. Very nicely composed Jacob.

A beautiful subject remarkably explored. But then what else do I expect from a master.

This is excellent, the way you start out with a simple recognizable scene such as plucking a daisy, then your fervor grows & grows thru-out the poem, until we're deep into a wild night frenzy of wildflowers! *smile* Fondly, Margie

Inspiring. Pardon my reciprocation...........
curious buds echo forgotten passions
exciting flights of fancy race past
eddies swirl in the light of fandango
as we shed the rusty armor's embrace
boom boom out go the lights
