incomplete morning

incomplete morning

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

incomplete morning

the coffee is cold

the lipstick on your cup

a faded smile

and my danish

tastes past its expiration date

as i stare at your empty chair

wondering why i forgot

to set the butter out

while you were still here.

Haven’t seen you around here lately, so I hope you’re enjoying summer fun! This is a perfectly-crafted message that paints a vivid word picture of your title (which we all wish we’d thought of!) I love the examples you use to flesh out your extended metaphor! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

And was the danishes taste the only thing that was past its expiry date? Sometimes seeing and accepting the truth is the best thing to do- sets your soul free- hope you are well🌹

A quick cup of coffee and then she was gone. You were left behind feeling undernourished. She should have been on the menu.

Ah well, less time for you to be misbehaving:)
I distinctly remember my grandmother doing that very thing - setting the butter out so it wouldn't be hard to spread. I think that must have been before the softer tubs of butter hit the market, but she was never one who bothered with a simpler way of doing things. I'd be willing to bet the danish was from "Entenmann's", but that empty chair really got me...it really got me good!

absence really makes the heart grow fonder and when he/she is no longer there that is the only time that you realize that you miss that person...

It's funny the things that go through our heads when someone's gone. I remember after my mother died I felt guilty for not putting a book back on her shelf the night before.
