I saw myself in your poem. It’s the way I find it too hard to dig down & reveal the most intense stuff that’s in there, so I write like a goofball instead. Love all your “o” words in the second stanza, an uncommon spattering of wordplay that heightens your message (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
Dark and dismal thoughts today. Reading this the day after yet another school shooting, I am thinking of the students who screamed as they knew their lives were in danger...the students who were gunned down for no reason. Gun control words scurry underground.....when will we finally keep our children safe? I know you wrote this before yesterday though so your words have a different meaning when read in that context. The heart's words should never be left unsaid....because we never know when it is too late. Lydi**

thank you...we should never leave the words unsaid...tragedies like yesterday just keep happening...but a number of reasons can keep us from telling each other how we feel...we need to not procrastinate expressing those feelings.

This reminds me of all of us poets; silently screaming within our depths, the heart destitute of love and full of longing, yet no one can hear our screams, so we take them to our deaths or wrestle them into words on the page. Sometimes in life it is just so difficult to tell someone the words we really mean to say. At other times when we do find the courage our words are not heard.
Another fine write. Poignant and heartfelt.

so many thoughts here...so much interpretation to be had.....my silent screamers tell me that I don't say I love you enough during life.

I see this as a state of mind more than actual death. There are many who are dead inside and are waiting to be buried. The causes are many. Divorce, frustrations, bad health, drug addictions...Those silent screams are written on their faces. The epitaphs are often by word of mouth.

yes, not literal death...being dead inside is worse, thank you, Relic.

J., no doubt I'm completely off-track on my thoughts after reading this one. My first thought, and a clear one... our Founding Fathers suffering beneath the dirt as their "experiment" crumbles above them. I'll probably come back to this one after I think about it a bit more.

no reader is ever "off track" Robert...it is about what YOU are thinking when reading...i like this .. read moreno reader is ever "off track" Robert...it is about what YOU are thinking when reading...i like this idea..it matches...and they probably are wondering what in the hell happened to their "project"---aren't they?
That sums up a lot in a very short space. If only those words were easier to provide before they had to be added to our epitaph. There was a desperation to this that mad me anxious, that's a good sign. Loved it!!!

glad it could have some effect on you, Crowley...
thank you for your words,

Words echo in spirit. I like to think of your poems as a voice reaching out beyond the physical, inspiring and touching all your readers. You know I'm a lifelong fan of your work Jacob. This piece is magnificent, I've read In Spirit too by Christine Shaw and she's very talented as well. You poets have a lot in common with different styles, it's a pleasure to a part of the time where I get to read and experience both your journeys.
