she wolves, city carnivores and exorbitant fares

she wolves, city carnivores and exorbitant fares

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

she wolves, city carnivores and exorbitant fares

drag me into your controversial

illusion

you walk the streets of love

like a prostitute

waving a flag of innocence

the fluttering sound of hearts breaking into shards

red catastrophe

you walk the streets of love

hailing cabs to easy street

but not paying the tabs

nor tipping the gentlemen you stumble over

in your haste

to lay waste

to the despised gender

you write poems hard hitting

the half-witted males you sleep with

when your pen is the voyeur

inking photographs

drag me into your controversial

illusion

and i'll sing with you in concrete melodies

of illogical metaphors

and we will salute

paper machete flags

we've invented in our minds

while our hearts write themselves

into the back seat of yet another cab

the one that leads to nowhere righteous

but has a great view from

the tainted, tinted windows.

it's almost like the narrator leads a simple life teetering on the edge of all the action but never fully venturing in through his own fear. it's like he watched in admiration his muse who does as she so chooses, illusion or not, it is up for grabs and the narrator want a piece of it, if for noting else but to add a bit of 'old fashioned' spice to his own life.

I like this very much Jacob - so much to 'look at' with my mind X

Was my pleasure and you are welcome Jacob.
If there is a demand to fill a void, nature abhors a vacuum. A hard hitting viewpoint here, Jacob. I particularly loved your last line that emphasises the "covert " view .

'i'll sing with you in concrete melodies"
This is a great line, j. and quite possibly a great book title.

Reading this piece I thought of NYC or Detroit, which is across the river from me, and a story of a woman who gets by with what she can do and does to and for men.

Like the old line from 'The Boxer" "there were times when I was so lonesome I took some comfort there"

I liked the image this produced in my imagination.

A good write.
