a Very Short Story

 a Very Short Story

foreplay/

then foreclosure

i am back out onto the street

without so much as a note

to sing my last song with you

buttered toast, then jammed

like the locked door to your heart

my will, scraping the pavement

as i think of old times

getting excited, touching your hand

and other skin

that sought my groove

melodious eruptions of fantasies

the gushing well,

a house built of

glances, small talk and affidavits

of feelings signed

then disregarded

annulled

no unscrewed Smuckers

just a screwed schmuck

no bed before breakfast

no breakfast before eviction

my affliction/

a worthless piece of paper

worn shoes

and a heart searching an antidote

for an anecdote.

Some great wordplay in this one, Jacob. How can two people who love one another end up so badly? How can one be so cruel to another? Lots of great lines in this one, but my favorite has to be "no unscrewed Smuckers - just a screwed schmuck"! Liked this one. Lydi**
