the scream of silence

the scream of silence

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the scream of silence

footnotes

sound a little grating

to the heart

irrelevance is not a sweet melody

when spring arrives

and we grow apart

two sad trees

avoiding the blue sky cry

in earnest

singing our own songs

in soundproof rooms of retrospect

but i do remember tapping my foot to our beat

once we danced on a stage of light

our audience of friends asked for an encore

but we were already gone,

and the slightest breeze of reconciliation

was just orange, red and gold memories

lying in dispatch

while we gathered tears

like they were falling leaves

with voices mute.

Jacob.. I did it again. My first poem to pluck from your carcass of word prison's storage is a resurrection of amazement. The Screams are Loud.. Perhaps so clear that one might want to divorce themselves :-)

I like it.
"irrelevance is not a sweet medley"
Nice line.
Picture of the leaves falling, mixed with the wish for an encore.
Great imagery.

You turn simple words into phrases that become utter awareness to the living and the feeling. But, but..
there's that lingeing sadness, jacob, that tells its own story.

'.. the slightest breeze of reconciliation ~ was just orange, red and gold memories ~ lying in dispatch..
while we gathered tears ~ like they were falling leaves ~ with voices mute.'. Extraordinary.

When two grow apart, it is best to leave without argument. Staying only prolongs the agony. A poignant tale and told in the best of metaphors. I expect this from you at this point! Lydi**

No way! Your writing is consistently a pleasure to read, Jacob.
Yes all good things must come to an end and like autumn we are reminded from the litter!

As with all endings, there is that silver lining of memory. Sadness can be written of, recorded, and allowed to flower. Thank God you're a great poet who continues to record those thoughts that the meek, like myself, have not the courage to do. CD

The way you create an image in your reader's minds always takes my breath away. The leaves becoming dried tears to emotions that speak louder than words. I felt the loss and I also experienced the love.

Title reminds me of Rod Steiger's monumental performance in "The Pawnbroker."
Poignant poem painfully conveyed!

i feel the sad ...i am pretty sure i would never have thought of trees as separate islands ...a new perspective i'll try out the next time i talk to them ;)
(i just love the trees)
i hear the silence of those leaves falling ... and the introduction of colors surprised me and added to how i was thinking and feeling that sadness ... cool stuff as always jacob!
