Still Carrying your Books in my Mind

Still Carrying your Books in my Mind

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Still Carrying your Books in my Mind

a reprimanded student of love

detention with no touch

lips mumbling alone

not touching other lips

the essay disorganized

feelings full of fragmented refuge

calling your name from the principal's office

empty hallways answer

my own voice

the textbook, heartbreak echo

studied your heart for nothing

I would never graduate into your life.

This poem carried me back to my school days and thoughts about more than one crush; none became what I'd hoped at the time. Thank goodness for that (some wacky women now). Still, others and I can identify now as adults with past and more recent broken hearts. Thanks for another great one, J.

thank you for your kind review, Robert,

A rather sorrowful poem, but so well expressed. I think many have 'studied hearts for nothing' and will identify with this. I love the idea of 'carrying your books'. Isn't that what little boys did to the girls they wanted to get with, on the way to school? And we still do it, metaphorically as adults!!!

:}................
A charming, metaphorical, rather futile poetic account. A lot like my life; sans the charming, metaphorical and poetic.
Your poem takes me back--to even more painful times.
Thanks for the memories, Mr. Non-Hope!

Only joshin', Jacob.
Outstanding poem!
Remembering those days.. the arts of cruelty.. being looked straight through as if-
Shouting inside..never being heard.

Some times we never recover from....

Good One !!
