Radio Wake

Radio Wake

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Radio Wake

old love songs with bitter harmonies
discordant melodies of late night blues
the me's and the you's

the band broke up long ago
but i still hear some of the past
playing on the radio in my mind

we were a tune of tenuous tenure
but explosive notes of passion
gregarious lyrics that went to number one
on the charts
in milliseconds

then dropped out of the top 40
at record speed,
too fast for hearts to absorb the sound

you didn't stick around for the royalties
and i became a pauper from love's legality leftovers

but i still hear some of the past
and wonder why
there is a certain comfort

even with the static memories.

My pleasure J- keep up the good stuff.
I hear it with you j. You say it so well. The memories, the melodies..the soundtracks of love, living, loss. Perfect musical metaphor. “We were a tune of tenuous tenure’- it just doesn’t get any better than that line-ever! Every line here is a virtuoso of magnificence.

Hey, great job on this piece! I love the comparison you drew between the fleeting popularity of songs on the radio and past romance. When things are working everything is number 1 in the spotlight but things can change quickly and we're left with bitter reminders playing over and over. Brilliant!

I heard an old tune as I finished reading this poem, J. So many memories rush back when we hear a song or music from a specific era. And, your "static memories" line reminded of an old 33 or 45 on the turntable, the last song ended, the needle still grinding on black vinyl.

Something to be said for old tunes.
Even if it is a bitter memory. Though you do tend to disect that particular tune more. I suppose that's why music is so powerful.

Your memories are not static, they're in motion and you brought me along. I do wish I could know you better, I hear you, but I don't see the feet.

In the case of " the same old song, the same old song!' as in life sometimes sadly the stylus needs replacing by a new one!!!Yes many a memory is made to a song to be forever replayed. Another little gem Jacob.
