that familiar displayA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertothat familiar display
window dressing frosted mannequins dance
in my mind words freeze to the
glass become panes of phrases disconnected in the
frigid world of snow patterns and ice follicles
fraying in wonderment.
i wrote you into a warm
cuddle but you left me a frozen
puddle of empty heart, skate tracks across the
reflection of what was once me
the mannequins with
upside down smiles become inert memories of
you as you walk by one more
time and glance into my
display
then find another shop to exchange embraces another shop with faces unfamiliar the strangers you claim to love
while i live out my
existence in the same old window the frosted
mannequin trying to type new
patterns on a keyboard that isn't
even real.
