that familiar display

that familiar display

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

that familiar display

window dressing

frosted mannequins dance in my mind

words freeze to the glass

become panes of phrases

disconnected in the frigid world

of snow patterns

and ice follicles fraying

in wonderment.

i wrote you into a warm cuddle

but you left me a frozen puddle

of empty heart,

skate tracks across the reflection of what was once me

the mannequins with upside down smiles

become inert memories of you

as you walk by one more time

and glance into my display

then find another shop

to exchange embraces

another shop

with faces

unfamiliar

the strangers you claim

to love

while i live out my existence

in the same old window

the frosted mannequin

trying to type new patterns

on a keyboard that isn't even real.

Aren't we all on some sort of display ?
To be sold and bought
Somehow forgotten
As we search for meaning in one another
Shopping for more than there is for sale
Some windows are full others are filled with emptiness
You shop where you see value
Or simply stare and walk by
So does the heart
Excellent work

Nice poem. I envisioned a silent juxtaposition between the mannequin and man. Nice write.

You are welcome my friend.
damn Jacob I have missed reading your poetry... I know the feel of these frozen words, the ones you say but are never heard, ignored or just thrown away....

good to read you again Jacob, but could you stop breaking my heart... lol...

Ahh a memory of a love that has frozen over and moved onto new location leaving lost dreams and memories in its wake.

thank you for your words, Poetic Beauty.

It's always strange how when love dies it becomes cold. The mannequin like the change of fashion is moving on. But some suits never go out of fashion.
They stay around for years.

that is so true, Paul...yes

thank you,

"become panes of phrases" sparks the intellect and the heart ... i think the first half (or so) is stronger than the second ... i can't help thinking about ..and feeling the distress and pain ..that goes with a finger ... or lips ... or tongue ... stuck to a frigid post ..it made your poem very close up for me ..

We can all live in our own weathered worlds, reacting according to the inside rather than outside.. so often frozen at the core or heated by circumstance. You write with such freedom, imagine scenes and emotions that fly from such a grand imagination.. the English teacher with an artist's perception, jacob.. How different each person's tableau, still as ice.. looking out... reflected in space. Perhaps.

Will return to this poem.. has hidden perspectives i think... need look when my mind free itself from the instant read.

It's interesting how familiar this feels, how we all tend to drift here on winter nights. Reflection is always lined, aren't we all? But the ending....we can't help but to go there, that the other is fairing better than we are. I don't think it's true but we go there. Beautiful poem jacob.
