old bowlers...the hats and pins of life

old bowlers...the hats and pins of life

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

old bowlers...the hats and pins of life

fossils of Eve party favors

old lips kiss at midnight

the champagne a non-alcoholic blush

backwards clocks in the mind

tick toward adolescence

a youth movement of aging adults

winding themselves away from current standing

although most are sitting by this decade of persuasion

let's laugh tonight

tomorrow might be swollen over with cracked tears

we are porcelain dreams with love lines splitting

hugging memories as the ball drops

like old bowlers

who can barely make it to the foul line

before their score collapses them

out of their shoes.

"we are porcelain dreams with love lines splitting" a poignant line, but oh so true. The ball drops, a new year begins, and we realize we are getting closer and closer to the end. Great "foul line" metaphor. The calendar pages turn....we hang on. Lydi**

I did enjoy this poem my friend. I was a old bowler myself. My mother was the best kind of bowler. Started with 200 plus games and drank. Last game a 120. Drink and bowling. A bad combination. Thank you Jacob for sharing the excellent poetry.

Sounds like the British house of lords.
Fossils turning up for their 300 pounds sleep allowance. In saying that. Their experience got Britain to where she is today. Don't know if that's good or bad.

Age is insidious, It can make us "wiser" ( in our own opinion) or bitter. Retaining a balance is important as reality is learning to cope and not merely to dream. The only certainty about age is that our lives depend on it!

i like your last line...yes, "age, our lives depend on it"---thank you, Norman.

Your poem is an artistic expression of something I heard a few years ago. We're all equally blessed with the same fortune at birth---time. We don't get more with age, wealth, education, or fame. We will all face the same end. As we age, we appreciate and embrace our experiences, good and bad, as life lessons that enriched us.
Another fine piece from you, sir.

gives me a fine smile...its is so true ..all of it...we review our lives .. in fact i was doing it this morning first thing almost ... youthful choices, fantasies and dreams come true or not ... how foolish to think one wise .. and we are so collapsible in the end .. as it should be ..no finite thing will stand up for us and certainly we must fall before the King ... very healthy and satisfying read for me jacob!
