the glaze on the dessert

the glaze on the dessert

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the glaze on the dessert

against the salad of circumstance

she was window dressing,

i held her to my shoulder

like a draped sweater,

she was the French crouton

of love,

a most gorgeous condiment

but by the time it came to the main course

i had surrendered my seat next to her,

and was down at the Ice Cream shop

trying to cool off my tongue-tied

embarrassment

knowing that table

had no place-setting

for my hand-me-down heart

and in the shadows of her mind

the sweater was never going to be

warm enough---

I suppose that's why the window display is there.
It draws you in. You buy the creation.
But when you get it home.
The glitz has disappeared.
Just as well there's lots of shops.

yes, there are lots of shops...
and when the glitz disappears...what's left.

I'm not sure if I understand what You meant with Your poem here, but I got two things, from the title down to the last word of Your poem.

First, I see the dessert as a our goal, and how our surrendering sometimes to it, won't work, what work is our working and aiming to read that goal, second, I see a man who loves a woman, but it seems that woman doesn't share him the same feelings.

interesting piece, thank You for sharing Your talented rich imagination with us.

Every time I come back to the site, once or twice in a couple of months, it has never ceased to amaze me how you surprise me with your finesse with words.

And your consistency with delivering poems is something I aspire to do this year.

An amazing poetry of main courses, condiments and refreshments to savor the taste whether salty or sweet and to enjoy the flavors compared to love relations. Your table of treats is diverse, great poet.

You are welcome.
You really bummed me out on this one. I thought once I saw her in her own shadows but I was mistaken it was me.

Regards,
Al

Ohhh yess, very romantic write, my friend. I dare say many people wish this were written about them - To be so tantalising to another...

The imagery was great, I liked the flow too. This is what good poetry is all about!

God bless the wisdom to run...some, we are never good enough nor fit for ...i love that your cowboy recognized this right away ..nothing like a visit to Baskin Robbins to sooth an altered ego ;)))
