denim dream

denim dream

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

denim dream

you were so casual in your advance

i was willing to throw formality aside

to love you,

we kissed in jeans and t-shirts

tousled lips met

awkwardly at first

but patches on previous memories

don't cover the wear so well

and clearing out the pockets

of previous petals

doesn’t mend the love-me-not's

enough

your ease

became my unease

and I held you pretentiously

at first

but the conversation

of oscillation

gradually got off the cuff enough

for us to effect a comfort

meant to be worn forever.

First, there's nothing as provocative as jeans & t-shirt. Second, I love the way your message shows us so palpably how those jeans can retain the torn memories, etc. I love this poem (((HUGS))) Fondly Margie

thank you for your kind words and identifying, Margie...

Was there ever really anything casual about those first awkward meeting? There was a certain calculated undertone involved I think.
I think I see a reference to ZuZu's petals as well.
Well done J. I like it.

ah yes, it is a wonderful life isn't it? full of chances...
thank you, Ted.

The word awkwardly sets a perfect tone; it made me remember a nervous holding of hands, a kiss burned into memory.

Sometimes we are fortunate enough to find a comfort than can be worn forever, but more often than not, a change of outfit becomes the order of the day.

Beccy.

You "touched" upon an aspect of familiarity few talk of - and did it comfortably.

Very hip and a throw back to disco, rock and roll days perhaps. Very impressive comparisons with modern fashion and woven in relationships gone good or bad.
