This is unbelievable! I was completely transfixed by the journey your words took me on! I could see & feel it all . . . especially love the double meaning from "skid marks" on, even before you touched on it, I could feel it coming *smile* Here's wishing you & your loved ones a beautiful Christmas full of joy (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You know I know this place well, having lived in western NC and going to college in Boone. This has the feel of a final goodbye, but with a smile at the fond memories. I love those far blue mountains. When I'm there I'm always at home.

Yes, i know you know it well, James...
and thank you for your words,
j.
Never visited, maybe never will.. but you've left wonderfully visual pictures in your wake.. can almost inhale the dryness.. i think that's how it might be. Memories set firm, become part of the landscape of life.. so your words suggest.
Beautifully laid, j., as ever always.. never known you to miss the chance to muse and express so eloquently. 'measured in ancient minutes---our fossilized memories ~ lost loved ones ~ become stone monuments.. '

My pleasure as ever always.. stay well, smiling, please.
I lived in NC for about 6 years and there is some beautiful country out that way. This was a stroll down memory lane. Thank you for that. Painting with a pen. Wonderfully done.
i love the Blue Ridge Mountains ..such a sight! but you rocked them out of romantic with this one ..very apt descriptions of dead and gone but still hang on .. skid marks, ancient, fossilized, stone, dusky ..there is no missing the tragedy and dilemma your protagonist is stuck in ..set in N. Carolina Blue Ridge the contrast is even more heart breaking to me :(((

More blue than Carolina--though the imagery and flavor are certainly distinctive.
You may not be happy when you're sad; you are, however, brilliant when you're sad.
Work with impact!
You knew I had to review this one! (laughing) So many tales to tell of that Carolina blue sky and so many adventures I have had beneath it. The Appalachians are the oldest mountain range in the world and they have stories none of us could fully imagine. But I love to hear the old folks tell their tales and love to hear the legends. I hope none of this will ever fade into a "dusky" remembrance. Bless.

I just never updated my profile info but I'm still in the State. My wife and I moved to a small town in the foothills. I could not imagine living anywhere but here though. I've been through Deep Gap. Doc Watson was born there. I've seen Doc play. He's an amazing guitar picker.
