a daylight's dispositionA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertoa daylight's disposition
we
shared a Winston or two and touched toes under
the table wicked glances unwarranted passion
doing smoke rings in secret, your eyes held mine with every minimal
glimpse
yet we resisted knowing the consequence and i live with that
regret every instance of memory
i gave up cigarettes
years ago but the glimpses are
still like a nicotine habit
even though the rings
evaporated in one suspended
night---and
you gave up the thought
of me the very moment the
clock struck that night into morning.
