another day in November

another day in November

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

another day in November

some armed some not
broken pieces
puzzles of war
nothing fits back into life
after,

the induction, seduction, reduction
of body,
of heart

of mind,

plagues of shattered pictures
of ghosts lying in cradled hands
friends of distinction, now friends of extinction

all as one serving
now blown into proportions
of segregated selves

a day to remember for us
a day to forget for them

or perhaps
just another day
that arrives
to survive

barely alive
marching to the same beat
either mending
or bending

closer
to oblivion.

The damage that happens to all of us throughout life shows
for the wise they self heal and pick up those signs
and some just poison everyone around them without a care
but that damage is a label
this is what i have been through and this is how i chose to deal with it
to each his own
i love your poems and i miss you so much
i am aiming now to get published in New York
i hope it goes through

Is it a good day? A bad day? Just a day? Doe sit even matter? What does matter? Who matters? Is there matter? Can things matter?

Some of the thoughts this poem made me think. This is a wonderful poem. The structure is...interesting to say the least. There's no real consistency, but does consistency matter? Ha! I'm still asking questions!

One thing done exquisitely is the punctuation. It makes it very clear what the author's opinion is. I feel like I've met the poet because I know the way they are processing it. The only period exists after "oblivion," making it clear that we as humans can continue worrying about the good vs. the bad, or we can all just realize that we are animals on a rock floating through space that are destined to die...period.

Of course, this is just what I've taken from this poem. I'm of course no literary genius, but one this is for sure: this poem is a great one.
