amorous fossils

amorous fossils

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

amorous fossils

bones

of lovers

covered with soft sod

recently filled-in graves of graphic pain

skeletons of relationships

of suicide kisses

ring fingers, calcium congregations

of wedding worms crawling down

some cryptic aisle

i found you before they covered us up

we embraced in a chorus of "death do us part"

and then the poison pervaded our proposition

with perpetual misunderstanding

a fatal dose of unwitting misconception

and they laid us out like Romeo and Juliet

no Capulets or Montagues to grieve

but ghosts of our hearts

held hands

and wept.

This Jacob is such a sad sonnet. The opening stanza is such an amazing one as you describe the fall from grace of love once found.

Know some senior females who might be considered "amorous fossils"--and, for that matter, myself, at times.
Faded love is a tragedy similar to the death of a family member; an experience from which ex-lovers never really recover.
Great offering!

How do two people so much in love end up hating one another till death do they part? Some great lines here..."suicide kisses"....brilliant! Such a well written tale of romance gone bad. Lydi**
