Unwanted Statistics

situational hitting
great in baseball,
not in relationships
those strikes are defective
the "k's" damage more than skin

battered mates
look to be traded
put on waivers
or just "let go"---

emotional swings
are below the belt
even when to the face
and the player guilty of this

needs to be tossed from the game
and suspended for life.

There used to be an old saying between Irish 'men' (I use that term loosely) - 'Women - like a good field should be dug over at least twice a year'. This was said in jest but it reflected an all too true aspect of life in Ireland for women.
The worm has gradually turned - hey women are learning to do martial arts and kickboxing and regular boxing now and woe betide spouses of future Irish women - for they can hit back now.

thank you,

Smart baseball metaphors used to condemn domestic violence.
Dark humor addresses a far darker subject.
Meaningful work!

Playing games, playing relationships...the metaphor is so valid. In bad relationships, the Rules of Engagement are tossed out and foul balls are thrown foully. Players grandstand and the umpire is blind. The game runs overtime even after it ends. And the crowd goes wild......Great theme and poem!

Very good use of symbolism here. Interesting the way sports metaphors can be fitted to conflict situations. I wonder what you could do with football.
