There used to be an old saying between Irish 'men' (I use that term loosely) - 'Women - like a good field should be dug over at least twice a year'. This was said in jest but it reflected an all too true aspect of life in Ireland for women.
The worm has gradually turned - hey women are learning to do martial arts and kickboxing and regular boxing now and woe betide spouses of future Irish women - for they can hit back now.
Hi Jacob - I wanted to drop by and say hello. By a strange coincidence (an unwanted one) we've had a situation in our family similar to your poem's theme - I am Irish myself and I was explaining to someone how it is, or can be, in certain relationships. Well, I liked this poem ('like' perhaps not the right word, but I think you know what I mean). Strange synergy. I am getting my daughter into boxing, as my dad did with us - nothing outright, just the ability to throw a shot if the need arises. I hope you are well. Rosa -x-

Domestic violence....a terrible situation all over the world. Whether it is emotional or physical, the scars last a lifetime. The baseball metaphor here almost hurts...because of the bat. LydI**
A good read, j. Perhaps the best way to end the 'game' is with a walk off single. Step free before a third strike.

thank you, Ted.
Really like this poem. I think you're great with the metaphors and words you use.
I really loved how, after all, this was about domestic violence.
Amazing poem. One of the best I've read on this website! thank you!

Domestic violence indeed is unacceptable, the emotional type can emanate from both partners though and relationships are very complex and tis so easy to judge. I have been hit twice by different partners (once a chair over my head and once an impressive right upper-cut) and have never landed a blow, not even a slap or prod. So easy to judge.
