No Safe Ground

No Safe Ground

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

No Safe Ground

hurricanes and earthquakes and such

intrusive lovers

not really friends

but then there is weathering family

some dead, some moribund in the mind

hearts dance into epiphany's night

but arms aren't wrapped around each other

they linger at a distance

survivors entreaty

but blood transfusions can't cut through the cold

on a NY street, i saw you in a picture

several stories and states away

like some ghost still begging for form

thoughts ride interstates in angry cars

forgiveness is a brief rest stop

with no concessions

you are gone from me,

i'm tired of driving into the same storm

and even the most expansive tremors

couldn't shock my heart

back to you.

"Weathering family"-the storms we are born to-whether good or bad... Relationships within relationships. Great metaphor and bleak, noir , chaotic vignettes. Driving madly or driving oneself mad over love ended ...Title says it all!

You're most welcome j.!
We endure internal raging when we are going through relationship difficulties. The winds of cognitive reasoning lull and gust and swirl about taking out our power lines and breaking our fragile branches. In the end we need to take shelter from the hurricane and stay on high and safe ground. As always you pack this full of descriptors and emotions Jacob.
