A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

with impunity

several misdemeanors turn felonious
as the sea becomes a playground
for waves of assault and battery
and strangulation of lives and property
no shots are fired,
but the sounds are alike
and people and structures fall
as in a high-noon showdown
when other storms abet
policing is a lost cause
islands and  coasts held hostage
normal existence is kidnapped
fraudulent winds
counterfeit currents
possession laundering
homes hijacked to filibustering floodwaters
all of it overrides---
vetoes the dreams of the innocents
who get in the way,
as in a drive-by shooting.

A novel metaphor choice but you make it work so well jacob as it relates to these natural disasters. It is so difficult to imagine going through this extreme weather, makes England seen like paradise.

"as in a drive by shooting"......indeed dear brother...great response to the tumult in Florida and Texas......does living in the Midwest make us safe from natures wrath? Yes....until the 16 inch snow fall in January....or the stifling heat in July......great poem sir.....dana

Wow...well done
It isn't fair what nature gets away with.
The is no justice, only fair warning.

You are welcome jacob.............:).....
One of my top 10 favorites of yours j.! Spot-on metaphor for these multiple "drive-by shootings of natural disasters. Every word, every line cries truth and bleeds unjust devastation. Love the High-Noon reference- Gary Cooper heroes are what we need. This is perfect. I applaud you my friend.
