I enjoyed the interplay of consuming and consumed. I was also interested in the idea of eternally sated in a single meal, like a one night stand? Always enjoyable... As an aside when you mentioned that Carbondale was in the eye of the eclipse so to speak I looked up the town, and what a cool place you live! It's called by many a land of poets? Well I know of one! William thank you for your kind words on the poem...and also of your words on Carbondale itself...we.. read moreWilliam thank you for your kind words on the poem...and also of your words on Carbondale itself...we do have a few around here who are mighty good...Rodney Jones, Kathy Cotton, Jim Lambert, David Gross...David Bond..David Evans .some damn good ones for sure.
This a favourite for sure. I just love the ease in which it slips into the romance of metaphoric phrases...yes, sated, content and happy being full from the table of love. Library for this one :)

thank you for your very kind review, Stella....

I could read this over are over again.
"and leave the table,
sated for eternity"
and
"simply us
the you's and me's of it all
memories baking in an oven of romantic inclusion"
Simply wonderful!
with a polite excuse
to leave the table
no expectations,
no necessary return engagement
simply us.
in a now and most delicious
repast.
I love the lack of expectations here. No formalities, no obligations. Just us, plain, simple and spontaneous. When a relationship reaches this level of comfort, it has truly evolved into something special.
Get the ingredients right, set the table nicely, turn the lights down low and the music to soul then indulge and savour every morsel; love on a plate and boy pass the tissues never mind the napkins!
Food as a metaphor for love/sex is always on the menu Jacob.
Having a bit of a love feast eh? I've always thought that love and food were closely intertwined...both nourishment, both satisfying and each fulfilling a hunger of sorts. The ladies used to say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Things like that make me glad that I learned to cook! (HA!) But love and food are both their own rewards...you can't KEEP them and enjoy them. They are for the moment and the moment for them. But enjoy the moment for moments are all we have in life. Wonderful read and I enjoyed as always. Cheers.
