gift wrapped memoirs from a young America

gift wrapped memoirs from a young America

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

gift wrapped memoirs from a young America

i gave all my teenage heart

allowed

naive alternatives

touching you

with my lack of knowledge

and love came a little too late

to serve purpose

i understand now,

years after i suffocated gladly

on your scent,

in the pursed lips of youth

we embraced

the kiss still collapses my being

a figurative will says

i inherited a memory

wisdom is wrapped in appreciation

and the bow has brown eyes.

Some people think "young love" is the only love; others believe it's simply the natural attraction of hormone-glutted bodies in their natural prime--an understandable obsession with sex.
Older, more mature, love usually requires actually liking, respecting--even, admiring--the person with whom you're involved.
This is a lovely and elegant poem seen through the eyes of an evolved being who--like most of us--wishes to cover, at least some, of his unresolved past with sweet illusions.
Despite the fact that few recall how it really was, we frequently choose to remember how certain events should have been.
Or maybe, as is too often the case, I'm just talking about myself.

I was rather intruged by this seemingly straight forward tale until I read it a third time Jacob. i then detected the bouquet of the lure of an older woman. perhaps a tutor? whatever as i am always pleased to devour your offerings.

Oh the teenage love and its naivete and inexperience! I could see the boy, trembling, blushing, sweet lights of love in his eyes. Your words paint such an endearing picture...

You are welcome.
"Jack & Diane-American kids doing the best they can"...Like JCM's song, this poem, this account of innocent and overwhelming young love, flows sweetly as America did then. " The kiss still collapses my being"-splendid. Kudos!
