No ImpunityA Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
you can
sever the collusion but your complement can
not be forgiven
the one who aided and
abetted being the concubine to your tryst's resign weak inception of
tangled hearts
as she waits for you in
the parlor a cold fire exuding from
her hearth and your heart now ashes
to her she will laugh over your
urn
fickle beginnings make for fickle endings optimistic intentions
only a match not the consumption of
flames
now you sit in her chair smoldering there are still slight
embers warming
but not for you, the draft is freezing
your conscience
and your accomplice is
on the lam searching new incisions to cut her losses
that chair is of hard
wood perhaps you and it could ignite another
fire an object like that has no conscience,
either.
