a certain truancyA Poem by jacob erin-cilbertoa certain truancy
we woke
up in the end lounge of a bell-bottomed
dormitory
studying anatomy but skipping class for personal reasons
absence of academic
pursuit but brilliant in the
ways of young love by-products of a time
sit-ins, love-ins paisley possessiveness no book binders, just arms and hearts
attached to the pages of us
then graduation came and we walked separate
aisles degrees in hand, but hands not in each
other's
diplomas of a reality we never saw coming, but then, we never sat through
even one lecture
on the way things really
were.
