the importance of what's not said

the importance of what's not said

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the importance of what's not said

silence,

comfortable between two old friends,
old lovers,
old understandings

awkward between couples on first dates
when each is hiding a thought
a truth
or a falsity meant to instigate
unease

silence,

warranted at times,
wishful thinking at times
that blessing at times
prayed for in the end

to be comfortable
nothing more needing to be said
life expressed in a poem

all of it,
in fewest words
then silence

blessed silence,
understanding understood.

This is part of my repertoire in thinking about ideas, concepts, etc.
Nicely traversed, smooth, quiet, blessed are the words that lead to understanding.

Regards,
Al

thank you, Al.
Silence is sometimes good but sometimes it can made deep well... Some voice want to be heard even they don't come from the mouth but it always find their way out to this world, even it takes the shape of a tear...
I find it quite interesting and close to the subject... Thanks for sharing

Moments are passed by without true organic nature. Silence allows the universe to be as it is without contemplation of understood or misunderstood words. Enjoyed this very much

"understanding understood"...when silences are comforting and peaceful, you know you are with the right person. Lovely. Lydi**

'true friendship comes when silence between two people is comfortable' is what came into my mind after reading this piece...

I like the contrast here of silence in old friendships and first dates, so true...

Thank you, William.

Yes, two people's comfort with mutual silence can be the measure of a relationship.
Your insight, poet, is clear and profound.
Blessed be the eloquence of wordless communication.

Your poem (read in silence) speaks volumes.
The value of silence is often underestimated. Not only in communication, where there is time to contemplate, but also environmental silence, which has
now become a rarity.
