sleep fit

sleep fit

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

sleep fit

the mattress is still firm

like my resolve,

but the body imprint on the other side

is fading,

the pillow talk silent

one is still fluffed

but cold

the other still stuffed

and old

my thoughts blanketed

but the warmth seeped

from under the sheets

i lie on my side, staring

at the empty space,

as the room contracts

one squeezed out,

the other squeezed in

to himself.

Not a problem j .
This makes me remember a few panels from a comic book. Trust me, there was some great writing. Husband is having a conversation. Bed empty beside him. He finally says he will turn out the light.

This is sad on many levels. I think if two people have been together forever, and one dies. It's as you say. The imprint just doesn't leave with them. Everything narrows into one.
Tough one.

Somber, reminiscent memories. Being alone can completely change how everything feels. Well written.

I don't know which I like more, the contrasts that hit on many levels (humor, imagery, emotion), or the simple, concise way you painted the picture of a moment in time and how it became that way. Unfortunately, I can relate. Funny how a space can seem big or small depending on the thoughts of the one in it.. Of course my favorite verse made me giggle, I like my pillows stuffed, comfortable and old :)

Such sadness of what was. Reminiscent of that vacant spot, and emptiness.
