some classics are difficult to readA Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
rising
from the awkward shadows the eyes spoke volumes like dark mines with
secret entrances
you stood there in brief a short story pouring
out words Hawthorne's breathing on
a page of anxiety
questions in the
summoning spelunkers find truce lips quiver, don't lie
walking together in an
echoed frame the picture from a past
darkness finds its sunspots
no posing necessary just a whiff of insane
trust and a old book shaking
its dust
opening in preface doubts of the postscript but willing to
investigate
the twists and turns that once drove us
underground because the burning
sensation from the sun
was more than we could
engage at the time. so we deliberate
back on page one again.
