apparently an apparition

apparently an apparition

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

apparently an apparition
rhapsody in seance fashion
the planchette moves slightly
you respond "no"
and my fingers touch the wine glass
before it shatters letters into the air
poetry is a conjuring
of spirit
of heart,
of words spelled in grotesque sequence
wine glasses can be replaced,
but when hearts are consumed
the wine never tastes the same
and the blue hue of the rhapsody
remains an unfulfilled ghost
of past acquaintance.

This is a delightful scramble of word play! I very much relate to the way our ghosts can bust up a perfectly good glass of wine! The title is an awesome slice of the pie you often serve with the word sounds counting as much as their meanings! *smile* (((HUGS)))

Ah, the Ouiji board.....I remember using one when I was in high school and then in college too. Great metaphor here. Wine can be poured from the ewer, but a heard can never overcome a loss...not totally. I liked this, Jacob. Lydi**

"Poetry is a conjuring of spirit, of heart, of words spelled in grotesque sequence.."- harkens to Macbeth's Three Witches' "Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble" and is a profoundly moving and haunting line. Imagery and wordage slays-"the blue hue of the rhapsody remains an unfulfilled ghost of past acquaintance"- sadly the planchette, and the mystery woman, said no....Excellent work my friend, as always!

The spirits will fool you, drunken your mind--make you think you're headed for answers, not profound confusion.
No matter how much we wish it were not so, lost love (or lost love opportunities) almost always remains lost; ain't no otherworldly tricks gonna make it otherwise.
But, of course, you've said all this, and more, with words most elegant.

Wow, sometimes treasured memories can easily transform themselves into nightmares that leave us saddened in Ground-Hog-Day-like re-visitations of those far better times when that special love was not yet lost to sands of time that never erode the best of those memories away, but instead embed them deeper and deeper into our hearts with each passing day ... Beautifully done ... I am sorry to say that your sadness and regret bleeds through each and every word of every line of this poem that speaks to me as something I have, personally, experienced ...

I love poems about writing poetry. Ever masterful this piece reflects the, sometimes, fickle nature of the muse.
