A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

i'm the hanging indent
on your Work Cited page
waiting for you to italicize my heart

get rid of the quotation marks
which make me only the smaller work
inside the container

since i am filled with you,
why not stronger inclusion?
and why am i always on the second line of your entry?
last on your list, romantically?
three spaces between us rather than two

within the confines of your affections,
you use me more often than others,
the citation referred to the most
and yet?

you nearly plagiarize me
with little or no credit

when it comes to expressing your love.

I swear you're an alien with a different mind-set and vision from most! You delve words, you juggle thoughts then - darn me - you lay them in near majesty. So much so, i don't always understand.

However, I do know fine phrasing when i see it, ' . since i am filled with you, why not stronger inclusion?' also, 'and yet? .. you nearly plagiarize me .. with little or no credit .. '

Why does that smile me? Maybe it strikes me as tongue in cheek, intending to ruffle feathers"!

Pow!-last three lines cut to the bone-"you nearly plagiarize me..with little or no credit..when it comes to expressing your love." Wit, wit, wit-Jacob, I don't know how you do it-but I wish I could too! Alas, I'll keep wishing and reading....
