such as love writes itself

such as love writes itself

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

such as love writes itself

such as it is,

my love is yours

damaged, preoccupied with past echoes

hearing the limited perception of painful memory

such as it is,

my love belongs to you

scarred beatings

off beat

slight pulse

all that's left

such as it is,

goodbye has been overused

the exits worn from footsteps

the running away a motif

for the essay of my life

such as i am,

i am here

standing in front of you,

hoping you will release the bandages

put your ear to my chest

and pray there's still a beat

to that song

i sang with innocence

many loves before you.

This is one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read. It is a burnt offering of love that has been humbly and honestly presented with all of its flaws and all of its brilliance and all of its vulnerability, to a lover in hopes of their acceptance and healing- "hoping you will release the bandages" "and "pray there's still a beat to that song I sang with innocence". Another Master-Class write!

We never really know where love is going to take us. Many times, it is rewarding to begin with, only to turn sour later on. It happens over and over, sometimes with a good ending, sometimes, not so much. You captured this brilliantly.

You're welcome. :)
there must be hope ...and the trembling of this poem ...vulnerable to the max ... quivers and makes that fine choice to try it one more time ...well done sir! very relatable and emotive ... i want to cheer the protagonist onward ..take the chance ... what the hell right!? :)

To this I relate Jacob, as you know. In it you capture the tone of one beaten by so many defeats at the hands of love and echo the plaintive pleas of one who has much love to give but feels somewhat disabled and lacking in confidence to do so. Those confused emotions of despair and anger are a heady mix to cope with and it takes a ministering angel to do so
