such as love writes itself

such as love writes itself

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

such as love writes itself

such as it is,

my love is yours

damaged, preoccupied with past echoes

hearing the limited perception of painful memory

such as it is,

my love belongs to you

scarred beatings

off beat

slight pulse

all that's left

such as it is,

goodbye has been overused

the exits worn from footsteps

the running away a motif

for the essay of my life

such as i am,

i am here

standing in front of you,

hoping you will release the bandages

put your ear to my chest

and pray there's still a beat

to that song

i sang with innocence

many loves before you.

Releasing the bandages is the only way to hear the broken tones of another but not always the most experienced thing...one moves forward as the other does not sometimes but to one it leaves a sting and trail of breadcrumbs...once loved that love becomes us in some ways...

thank you for your insightful words, Poppy...

I know exactly how this can feel . . . very poignantly stated . . . I love this repeated phrase: "such as it is" (which conveys such a modest apology for one's brokenness). This appeals more to my own straightforward way of seeing things.

like the hunt for the holy grail , to love and to be loved in return is so mystical but the hunt continues since we are not born to be alone.

i wonder sometimes...alone seems less complicated, as long as we don't feel lonely...

Yes indeed but we always want what we don't have!.
The battles of love
why do we return to engage again.. sigh

There seems to be a faint beating of hope inside your words.. maybe there is still a chance
to win.

I hear Love..

You are welcome jacob................. Jazzy
"goodbye has been overused

the running away a motif
for the essay of my life"

This piece feels different from what I have read of yours so far.
Seems like we never stop believing in love no matter how many times we're left broken..
This one touched me.

You're welcome, Jacob. Always a pleasure :)
What a beautiful poem. The last stanza is soul-touching. Love it seems, has broken more hearts than mended...then perhaps, that's the true nature of it

Life has a way of breaking these tender hearts we have, still they go on beating...hoping...a touching piece dear, enjoyed :) x

thank you for your words, Raven.

Brutally honest poem.
The poet retains only the faintest ray of hope that he can truly love again.
Last stanza is strikingly lovely and incredibly sad.
Stunning read.

The stories only become more interesting the longer we are able to write them!
