Noah's Instinct

Noah's Instinct

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Noah's Instinct

smashing water,

the ark of some covenant

God is shedding his tears all at once

the earth his kerchief

we are a world saddening the spirits

the grief of garrulous hatred abounds

simple poet splashes words on a page

the flooding warps his once optimistic theories

sum of the parts drowned in the whole

the eye is breaking again

veins of the heart, little rivers

overflowing their banks

life is an out of control current

titanic gestures cannot withstand

love is going under for the last time.

Strong and poignant...maybe a second flood will come soon enough...only someone with a pure and poetic heart would see it coming...
Favourite lines would be:
"the flooding warps his once optimistic theories
sum of the parts drowned in the whole"

thank you for your kind words,
j.
if it didn't do so much damage to the heart, love would be like a sunny rainbow after some summer rain... but it's been raining continuously now for many summers and I am tired of paddling this canoe... so Jacob you got any room on that ark, I hear it's for simple poets and you are giving poetry lessons in broken hearts... "garrulous hatred" oh my way too much in the world. fuking everything up everywhere, love never had a chance...

"We are a world saddening the spirits." Best line ever. Such strong, vivid imagery and masterful wordage. Nature heralding the Apocalypse. Great poem!

thank you, Annette.

As always you use words like pictures. I can see the raging sea under a leadened, darkened sky and a gale whipping the waves to a frenzy and we hope to reach safer shores where we may love and love and love. But no landfall for us Jacob.

I was listening to this talk show
and this somewhat religious man said that skies weep in rain for those who are good
literally cries out for good people
Noah was a very wise man for seeing things way before anyone else could .... yet we all sink in waters of hatred learning very little from our ancestors !!!

Really interesting piece
