A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a service of sorts

i put the ashes of us back together
just for an impulsive look at what we were
now, a lasting impression
of what could have been

burns into my heart
like the match we once struck
before the cold fire of regret
set in

and made us only a blue afterglow.

Heartfelt emotions in this one. That cold fire of regret burns more than a smoldering flame might. Great metaphor. Lydi**

thank you for your words, Lydi...

There always seems to be ashes left from the land of What If... What would life be like if we were still together?... What if I had said the right words?...What if I hadn't been so blind? Still, now and then, I visit 'the cold fire of regret' even though that match cannot be re-struck.

Good write, j. Thanks

The lasting impression of what could have been is the hardest pill to swallow. So glad I have that behind me.

We think a relationship can supercharge
or receive a maintenance redo
But instead we live through those deep moments of regret
only then does it all become real !!!

I love it
i could be way off but thats my take
