Soul-wrenching regret, a deeply felt, heartbroken perspective that would not have existed had what might have been, been. Yet, should the poet's dream be somehow suddenly fulfilled, he would likely eventually discover something else to longingly regret--perhaps, being trapped in a hellish relationship.
The greener grass of another timeline is almost always more mocking mirage than lusher pasture.
Impressive creation, Jacob!

I think you are much too kind, Jacob.
Your poetry is exceptional.
heart break is so painful. It's good that we aren't alone in such experiences..meaning we all go through it it seems...better to have had love and lost it!

always a bad idea to put those ashes of what was or could have been together again... funny but not humorous, at the way looking back continues to scorch and burn... add my name to the loooong list of those who loved that last line Jacob, that blue afterglow...
my X is visiting me today....Forewarned, I plan on being long gone from this house....Perhaps take in a bad movie or go to the mall like a 17 year old...Yikes..We are the "blue afterglow" you write about here jacob........something that use to be red hot in any situation.....anywhere....
Great poem my friend....dana
