once innocent bystanders

once innocent bystanders

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

once innocent bystanders

precipitous riot
clouds bursting like shotguns
the cracks,
uneven lines in the sky
the crowd murmuring rain-like smatterings
of blood tears

it's written on the crosswind
they will never surrender,
this storm has pushed them too far
and there is enormous space
between the angels

                      and the righteousness

they've surrendered.

I was thinking about this last night
thoes battles
coming out of nowhere
the righteous and innocent are the first to disappear

leaving impurity behind
Very thought provoking poem
