should have walked home

should have walked home

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

should have walked home

philosophical tongues

wag at 2 a.m.

Vodka rites celebrated

in stalemate

designated drivers find Cadillac rivalries

disputed luxury

philosophical tongues

not a dry eye on the pavement

leaning out the window

for a metamorphosis in conversation

ruptured stomach tightens

with each concession

now at his house

he parlays his goodbye

into the last word

as the adversary’s window rolls up.

Yes, he should have walked home. That all important last word is usually the one that leaves an impression.
