at light speed, slowlyA Poem by jacob erin-cilberto
hummingbirds
fly backwards time doesn't i see your face before
me and the hands of my
clock shake
but you still move
forward and my wings are clipped
by your scent
after all these years the dizzying effect
nests in my heart with the wish i could
have been older when i was younger,
perhaps we could have
flown into infinity on one wing, rather than looking at
each other with the glass of him between,
separating what could
have been from what became.
