at light speed, slowly

at light speed, slowly

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

at light speed, slowly

hummingbirds fly backwards

time doesn't

i see your face before me

and the hands of my clock shake

but you still move forward

and my wings are clipped by your scent

after all these years

the dizzying effect nests in my heart

with the wish i could have been older

when i was younger,

perhaps we could have flown into infinity

on one wing,

rather than looking at each other

with the glass of him

between,

separating what could have been

from what became.

Great Interrupted-Love Poem! So many agonizing & beautiful lines: "Perhaps we could have flown into infinity on one wing"..."wish I could have been older when I was younger"..."at light speed, slowly". Jacob, only you can write like this-I'm applauding.

I could feel the emotion that was put into writing this poem, very heartfelt. Also quite relatable to me, in the past. I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing!

Sadly and sweetly romantic in powerful allusion of love lost and love that could have been but shall never, ever, be ... Most everyone has known this pain that never eases, never really goes away ... Excellently done ...

Jacob, I can identify with this one more than you know. I made a mistake that I still regret 7 years later and may possibly regret 10 years from now.

There is a chapter in my life I cannot rewrite and I think of it something I let slip through my hands. She's with someone else and I'm always reminded of it being she lives so close.

Another great one. This is going into my faves.

This one makes the heart ache...I love the opening lines. Your imagery is so vivid. Loved "the hands of my clock shake" and "my wings are clipped by your scent" and "I wish I could have been older when I was younger." So good!

A poem of poignant interest when it comes to matters of the heart and the past. “With the wish i could have been older when i was younger,” and “separating what could have been from what became” – Very powerful lines that put me in a pensive state of mind regarding matters my heart and my past. Thanks for sharing.
