I have been waving bye bye for such a long time, my arms are cramped in one position and my checks go bouncy bouncy and I fall down... oh well Jacob, I find that good book sinners and hypocrits are very humorous and they take themselves so seriously too.. and to think a new scandal has arrived at the Vatican, wait or is that the old scandal made new... and they have the nerve to blame it on sex drugs and rock and roll... er.. oh that's what does go on in church land... agree with Corset's review except for the minor detail that there is no god as man made him up in order to play all those tricks you mentioned... including the marriage contract... and they have us believing slavery has been abolished...
sorry Jacob, your poetry always always takes me on far away realms of venting... will 50 hail Jacobs suffice for redemption??? ;0) you know of course I love your poem Jacob...

When we are young we actually believe that we can make commitments that will last forever, when, the truth is, we have no idea how long forever is ... People change ... Relationships change, as did my own in putting an end to a 39 year relationship and a big part of who I was ... it took years to learn be happy just being me and not me and her ... Now, after three years of trying, failing, and trying again, we are attempting to be friends and leave those cursed words husband and wife out of the picture ...
Lawyers are good men, if one enjoys the company of crooks ...
Speaking of crooks, you did make mention of clergy, hence religion and all its deceptively alluring trappings that, somehow, always tend to lighten one's pocketbook ... Having once been a Baptist preacher, I can tell you first hand, from over 40 years of intense and personal in depth study, that George Carlin was correct in his assessment that, "Religion is bullshit!" ... Oh, yes, there must be a Creator out there, somewhere, but I doubt seriously that such a Creative Being every directed man to create the fabricated fairy-tales that comprise Organized Religion as the world knows it ...
I think, all too often, we blame God for things gone awry in our lives, rather than shouldering up responsibility for our own actions, mistakes, and short comings ... God had nothing to do with my 39 year relationship coming to an end ... 99% of it all had to be my fault, because a woman is never going to own up to being wrong, for it is simply not in their nature or vocabulary ... LOL! ... A somber and sobering piece of poetry, because the end of a relationship ( a marriage) is like the end of life where the man gets to pay the funeral tab ... Been there, done that ... Well done and well understood by this old fart from Texas ...

When a marriage ends, it is sometimes difficult to remember why the two people involved ever entered into that "contract" to begin with. The church...or the synagogue...pretends the contract never happened. Wipes the slate clean religiously. What a farce. The attorneys get rich while emotions are shredded and thrown on the floor. Nothing pious about it for sure. Lydi**

I like the dig at religion. When did it become such a cash grab. My mom is on a fixed income and would feel guilty if she didn't put money in the basket.
My niece's first communion dress cost a fortune.
Who says you need to be a slave to religion, for heaven's sake! You need to keep some money back too so you can pay heaven's toll. I did like this.

A Non-metaphorical Interpretation: For the most part, "The Faith" has always been worth keeping; it is the deeply corrupt "church leaders" who continually and devastatingly undermine that faith. Monstrous hypocrites who've already lost their souls and are now intent on destroying ours.
Curses of modern clergy: humorless minds and graceless souls.
Thanks for the platform, Jacob!

We really should stop blaming god for marriages, or the failure of such, man wanted to own his woman so no one else could have her, man made "marriage contracts" ironic isn't it, that its practically impossible to get a man to commit to such bankruptcy now a days? He is either to young and fresh to know what folly or too old and broken to care about it , be faithful to his own creation, it's very much like people blaming todays kids for slavery and bigotry. its taught by the parents, all of it, learned through the ions of time that this is what it is, there is no one claiming ownership of the worlds fuckedupidness, each generation learned from the one before and the children of those who taught us will pay for the sins of their parents parents parents parents way of thinking.
myself included, all of us are a hot mess when it comes to love or marriage.

your reply reminds me of the Moody Blues' album---"to our children's children's children."
mixing money and our faith investments...
can they really combine or do they leave
us in a position of delusion-
unsure of who we really serve?
I think you ought to withdraw your money from wherever you started this bad investment... get it all in Sacagawea dollars and go on a different adventure.
