inflection's deflection

inflection's deflection

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

inflection's deflection

i'm declining,

not your invitation,

but my youthful exuberance

to jump into love blindfold

with both feet kicking up a heart's dust

lying in a puddle of years

no longer wet behind the ears

i have felt inclination

to declination

my emotional bones bruised enough

so,

i'm declining

and reclining in my Dorian Gray easy chair

a painting of who i was long ago

you can look,

but please don't touch

there is still some wet paint

from the tears

and i've lifted the blindfold

just enough

to see you coming.

As the years go on, our views change...political, financial, and romantic. We are older and perhaps wiser or at least more cautious. We know the players and their roles do not fool us anymore. Sometimes I wish we could still be fooled. Great metaphor. Lydi**

Love the cynicism in this.
Brick walls going up.
But for some reason there is no stopping her.

I hear you on this one Jacob, it reverberates loudly.. long gone are those wet behind the ears, throw caution to the wind heartaches... instead we settle into our shell routines and while looking out at the world see more danger than possibilities... but there are days when I wish I could see her coming, I'd jump in front of her and say HI, let the old heart either live or die... lol

anyway, loved sitting in your Dorian Gray rocker (I mean easy) chair Jacob... ;0)

This made me so sad but I still love how beautiful it is. The last lines are perfect!

Such hurt and cynical emotions as to not wish to be burned again portrayed in your signature Jacob. Perhaps internet love, perhaps not, but 'we' emotionally labile poetic types still fool ourselves into love.

So sad this one. We don't bounce back from injury as well when we're older, therefore we take less risks. Which also means we live a little less than we used.
